Rodolphe Wakebard Academy

The Rodo Wakeboard Academy is still making us dream! More than a high-level coach, Rodo is first and foremost a lover of travelling and discovering new things. Thanks to his experience you can now ride at the very top of your level or simply enjoy new destinations, such as Qatar last month.

Having the cheek to organise an "academy" in Doha, the capital of Qatar, was a first.

Rodo has been a regular visitor to the Middle East for several years. This very distinctive region of the world, well off the beaten tourist track, charmed him into taking along some guinea pigs to join in the adventure. Only six hours away by air and no time difference makes the destination ideal for Europeans.

Lisa, Karin, Soni, Valérie, Fred, Steve and Chris left Switzerland to plunge into the desert heat! After scores of e-mails containing at least 2,000 questions on lifestyles, laws, the temperature, prayer times and conditions during Ramadan, the girls had been reassured that they would not have to ride wearing the veil and finally agreed to this journey into the unknown.

But Rodo is a perfectionist and, thanks to his friends in Doha, Patrick, Imad and Taimer, the whole team was pleasantly surprised by the organisation, riding quality, welcome and good humour.

Everything had been done to keep our Swiss friends happy: luxury villas, Jacuzzi, swimming pool, Thai massages and a gymnasium at the Doha Diplomatic Club, a brand-new Mastercraft X star, flat water at 29°C and Rodo in charge. Add to this a trip into the desert in a four-wheel-drive vehicle and a barbecue by the sea with Lebanese kebabs, a perfect week - that was too short - was rounded off. Much more than just getting to know a country, everyone had a great, out of the ordinary, human adventure and discovered the welcome and kindness that led to a few tears on the day of departure.

A big thank you also to Ziad, the coordinator at the Diplomatic Club, who is at the start of a long adventure with Rodo.

The courses given with the local riders were also successful and aroused a great deal of interest from the media, including Al Jazeera sport. The Qataris are also ready to welcome Rodo and his teams again. The next trip to Qatar is in March.
In the meantime, the Rodo Wakeboard Academy is preparing a short trip to Tahiti for you, with wakeboarding, surfing, diving and Vahines! Choose between Florida, Qatar and Tahiti at http://www.rodowakeboardacademy.com and select your destination!
